Fireplace Log Holders

What Is a Fireplace Log Holder?

A fireplace log holder is a hearth accessory used for storing firewood or enhancing the appearance of a fireplace. The term can describe two different products offered by Serenity Direct:

• Firewood Holders: Freestanding racks or boxes that keep real firewood, kindling, and other supplies organized beside a fireplace or wood stove.
• Decorative Gas Fireplace Grates: Cast iron accessories placed inside an approved gas fireplace to create the traditional look of a wood-burning hearth.

Both add character to your fireplace area, but they serve different purposes. Choosing the right type depends on your fireplace and how you plan to use it.

Fireplace Log Holders for Traditional Fireplaces

A wood fireplace log holder keeps firewood neatly stacked and close at hand. Instead of leaving loose logs on the floor, you can store them in a sturdy rack or decorative box.

Indoor firewood holders offer several benefits:

• Less Mess: Help contain loose bark, wood chips, and other debris.
• Easy Access: Keep a small supply of firewood and kindling nearby.
• Better Organization: Give your firewood a dedicated storage space.
• Added Style: Turn stacked firewood into an attractive part of your hearth.

Serenity Direct carries the Vermont Castings Cast Iron Wood Box, featuring a classic lattice design and heavy-duty cast iron construction. It measures 27 inches wide, 22 inches high, and 16 inches deep, offering space for firewood, kindling, or fireplace tools.

Firewood holders work well beside traditional fireplaces, wood stoves, and hearths in cabins or living rooms. Always keep stored wood outside the appliance's required safety clearances.

Decorative Log Holders for Gas Fireplaces

Decorative fireplace grates bring the traditional look of a wood-burning fire to a gas fireplace.

Unlike freestanding firewood racks, these accessories sit inside the firebox, often in front of the gas burner. They help frame the flames and give the fireplace a more finished appearance.

Why Choose a Decorative Fireplace Grate?

• Traditional Style: Creates the classic appearance of a wood-burning hearth.
• Improved Appearance: Helps frame the burner and enhance the look of artificial gas logs.
• Durable Construction: Cast iron provides a sturdy, long-lasting accessory.
• Decorative Finish: Matte black adds contrast and complements many fireplace styles.

Serenity Direct offers a Matte Black Decorative Cast Iron Grate with six bars and a top beam. It weighs 10 pounds and is designed for compatible fireplaces with 24-inch or 30-inch burners.

Decorative grates help preserve the traditional look of a wood-burning fireplace when you convert it to propane.

Always confirm that a grate is approved for your gas fireplace and burner. It should never block burner openings, interfere with the pilot, or change the required gas log placement.

How to Choose the Right Fireplace Log Holder

The best log holder depends on your fireplace type, available space, and style preferences.

Check the Size and Fit

For indoor firewood storage, measure the floor space beside your hearth. Leave enough room to walk safely and maintain the required distance between stored wood and the fire.

For decorative gas grates, check your burner size, firebox dimensions, and manufacturer compatibility requirements.

Choose a Style That Matches Your Hearth

Cast iron log holders work well with rustic, traditional, and modern fireplace designs. Decorative lattice patterns add detail to a wood storage box, while matte black grates provide a simple, timeless finish.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fireplace Log Holders

Can I use a log holder next to a wood stove?

Yes. A freestanding firewood holder can keep logs organized near a wood stove. Place it outside the stove's required safety clearances and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Are cast iron log holders durable?

Yes. Cast iron is a strong material often used for hearth accessories. It can support the weight of firewood and adds a classic look to your fireplace area.

Can a decorative fireplace grate be used with propane gas logs?

Yes, if the grate is approved for the specific propane fireplace and burner. Check compatibility before purchasing or installing any gas fireplace accessory.

Do decorative gas fireplace grates hold the artificial logs?

Some gas fireplace grates are designed to support ceramic logs, while others are decorative pieces placed in front of the burner. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the exact product.

How do I choose the right size log holder?

For firewood storage, measure your available floor space and consider how much wood you want to keep nearby. For gas fireplace grates, verify the burner size, firebox measurements, and approved accessories.

Where should I place an indoor firewood holder?

Place your firewood holder on a stable surface near your fireplace or wood stove, but far enough away to meet all safety clearance requirements. Keep the wood dry and avoid blocking walkways or fireplace access.
